Frequently Asked Questions

In this section we provide answers to the most commonly asked questions about massage and Spinal Reflex Therapy. We hope you enjoy the information and share it with others. If you do not find what you are looking for, don't hesitate to contact us.

Are there any medical conditions that would make treatment inadvisable?

Yes, there are.  When you come in for your initial visit we will ask you to fill out a brief form that includes your relavent medical history.  If you are under the care of a doctor you may want to ask whether or not massage is recommended for you and for certain conditions approval from your doctor may be required.

Although most medical conditions will benefit from massage we may choose to adjust your treatment based upon your specific history.  For example, massage therapy creates an increased immune response.  Your body will create more white blood cells and the killer T cells will become more agressive after a massage.  That's great news for many clients and may help to ward off seasonal viruses.  However, for our clients with autoimmune diseases, any condition which the immune system is "attaching" itself, massage could make the client feel worse.  These clients can still receive massage however we will need to make adjustments, including the timing of the scheduled appointments.

In addition to various medical conditions certain medications will require adjustments and careful selection of the most appropriate massage technique.  That's why it is so important that you are thorough with your intake form.  We'd like to provide the best and most appropriate care during your session.

What should I wear to my appointment?

For a SRT treatment  for an active isolated stretching treatment you should come wearing athletic and comfortable clothing.  These types of therapy can be applied over clothing.

Other massage treatments are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear.  After speaking with your therapist about your goals for the session, the therapist will leave the room so that you can undress to your level of comfort.  You will then get on the massage table where you will be properly draped with sheet and/or blankets during the entire session.  Only the area being worked will be exposed.

What areas will be treated?

An SRT treatment is primarly focus on the back with some pressure point treatments on the hip and occasionally on the front of the neck, thigh or abdomen.  These can all be applied through clothing.

A traditional, full body massage session will include work on  your back, arms, legs, hands, feet, neck, shoulders, possibly the head and neck or even the abdomen if you request it.

All of our treatments will be tailored to your specific needs and/or requests.  For example, if you would like an hour on back, neck and shoulders we are happy to provide that for you.  If you have a particular goal, for example, increasing range of motion in a knee, hip or shoulder, we may suggest eliminating massage of unrelated areas in order to allow more focused time on the area of concern.

Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?

Your session will take place in a comfortable, private room with soft music playing.  The room will be adjusted for your comfort, including temperature, pillows, etc.

Do you accept health insurance?

We are not able to accept insurance through our office.  You will need to pay for the treatment at the time of service.  However, several of our clients have submitted claims to their insurance for reimbursement and we would be happy to provide any information needed to facilitate  this process.

Will I be sore after the treatment?
